Health benefits - from pure Finnish nature

The berries of AIVA Pure berry products are Finnish wild berries grown according to the FI-EKO-201 organic criteria.

They are picked by hand and dried whole. In shopping basket product pages you are able to see the EU´s health claim promises confirmed by the EU:  The Red, The Blue and The Yellow.

Our Northern Arctic climate offers Arctic berries a particularly favorable growing condition and, as a result, a unique, studied effect. Abundant snow cover protects and hydrates the plants; abundant summer light and the nightless night. Studies show that this harsh extreme promotes the formation of various antioxidants, including anthocyanin compounds.

For example, thanks to Finland's Northern location Wild Blueberries (Billberries) that grow wild in the forests form very high concentrations of anthocyanins and polyphenols.

National sports?

According to a study, 56% of Finns, regardless of their socio-economic status, pick berries at least once per summer. Huh! The most avid berry pickers are aged 60-74 (87% of pickers)!

Health benefits

Berries grown in the harsh, varying weather conditions of the North have been studied to be more antioxidant-rich than, for example, their southern European cousins. The health effects of berries can be measured in different ways, a few of them below:

Antioxidants

An antioxidant is a chemical compound that inhibits the oxidation of other compounds. The darkening of the peeled apple is an easy example of oxidation. The same thing happens in our body. Huh! Fortunately, there are antioxidants! Antioxidants balance the adverse reactions caused by oxidative stress in various biological systems. Antioxidants are essential for keeping the body healthy.

There are several types of antioxidants: food-derived antioxidants include Vitamin C, Vitamin E, carotenes, flavonoids, and other polyphenols. The overall effect of antioxidants in the body is affected by a number of different compounds, which is why the total amount of different compounds is considered more important than the concentrations of individual molecules.

The so-called ORAC (Oxygen Radical Absorbance Capacity) value is a good indicator of this antioxidant content in food and the total content of phenolic compounds. The ORAC value makes it easy to illustrate the effects of different foods on our well-being.

The ORAC values for AIVA Pure products, μmol TE / 100 g, are from PhytoGeniX BV and Larea laboratories.

Dietary fibre

Dietary fiber is an unabsorbed carbohydrate. The body is unable to break it down into an absorbable form. Fiber plays important roles in our digestive tract. Insoluble fiber maintains intestinal function, promotes the growth of beneficial bacteria and supports weight management. Soluble fiber also slows the rise in blood sugar levels after a meal and increases the removal of cholesterol from the body. Berries contain both insoluble and soluble fiber: pectin. In addition to oats and vegetables, berries are important sources of soluble fiber in the diet. The pectin content is highest in low and freshly ripened berries. The fiber content of the berries is about 3–6% of the fresh weight. The recommended intake for dietary fiber is 25-35 g / day. All AIVA Pure berry powders are high in fiber. Pectin, a soluble fiber, relieves intestinal symptoms and is able to absorb fluids secreted by the liver, which has a beneficial effect in defeating LDL cholesterol (often called bad cholesterol). 1 tablespoon of AIVA Pure berry powder equals about 1.5 dl of fresh berries. As such or among smoothies, curds or porridge.

Use: Enjoy daily as part of a balanced diet and a healthy lifestyle.

Blend into smoothies, juices, water, yogurt, oatmeal or use for baking. The potentials are like you: limitless

Because berries are low in fat and rich in water, they provide little energy. Berries consist mainly of about 80-90% water of their fresh weight. Most of their dry matter is carbohydrates as well as organic acids. Berries are low in fat and protein. Most of the energy in the berries comes from natural sugars. No sugar is added to AIVA Pure products, they contain natural sugars only. You can see the EU-approved health claims for each product on our product pages: The Red, The Blue and The Yellow.
